Liturgy Commission

Liturgy Commissions:

The purpose of the Liturgy Commission is to support the pastor in the celebration of the parish liturgies with special attention to environment, music, and liturgical ministers.

Volunteer Commitment

This commission meets monthly September to May.  If interested, you can contact

         Sr. Zita Simon, 271-5771, zsimon@straphael.org

         Bonnie Moschkau, 274-5248, bmoschkau@charter.net

Liturgical Roles

Open to all confirmed Parish members who would like to be more involved with the Liturgy.   These roles include the following:

  • Ministers of Hospitality (Hospitality Minsters/Ushers)
  • Ushers serve as a team for each weekend Mass during a given month. However, all are invited to volunteer as needed for Holy days and vacancies on weekends.
  • These volunteers strive to make people feel that they are welcome to worship as a member and friend of our Good Shepherd community. They promote a smooth flow of parishioners during arrival, seating, communion and exit. The ushers take up collections (offering) at each Mass on weekends and Holy Days. Ushers are trained to respond in case of an emergency.
  • Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
  • Extraordinary ministers assist the celebrant in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the congregation.  All ministers are required to complete a training by the Diocese and our parish.
  • Lectors
  • Lectors proclaim the Old and New Testament Readings during the Liturgy of the Word at week-end and Holy Day liturgies.
  • Commentators
  • The commentator greets and reads the introduction to the liturgy and general intercessions.  This person, also, reads any announcements at the end of the liturgy.
  • Mass Servers
  • Mass servers are open to parish youth, fourth grade or older who would like to get more involved with the Liturgy. Recruitment is done annually, with an initial training session.

Church Decorating is usually done the weekends before the Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter Season.  Volunteers are needed to assist during the liturgical seasons with Church decorating to enhance our liturgical celebration.  To volunteer contact,

Sr. Zita Simon, 271-5771, or zsimon@straphael.org
